A lot of people have asked me what I use to curl hair. For big curls such as the ones you see on my instagram, I use a 38mm barrel curling tong. Before I start, I like to mix serum, leave-in conditioner, volumizing mousse and distribute it throughout the hair while it is wet then dry it off with a boar brush to get rid of the frizz then I mist the hair with a heat protectant. After I will also lightly mist the hair with hair spray so the curls hold better. I take small sections and curl it and leave it to set for at least 30 seconds then unwrap it and then continue doing the next section. Once I am finished with one section, I lightly mist over it with hairspray again and go onto the next section. All the hair is curled away from the face. (If you like you can alternate the curls for messier curls). Most of the times I don't brush through the curls if the customers are planning on heading out later only because I know it will drop and because I let them brush through it themselves later when they are ready to go out. But if my clients prefer it brushed out then I will brush it out on the day. After I finish curling I will mist it with a shine spray.
For products please see below for my recommendations.
Curling Tong: The best one out there is Babyliss which I highly recommend. It doesn't pull the hair and it is a ceramic coated barrel which evenly distributes the heat. The hair glides off easily without snagging so that's another bonus too!
