The GlamPalm VS GHD!

GlamPalm is a new brand of iron on the market which is in the same price range as the GHD.

They can both be used to create various looks, from curl to straight.

The only major difference is that the GlamPalm has adjustable temperature.

The GlamPalm also claims to do virtually no damage to your hair and the GlamPalm special heat plate is different from the usual ceramic heat plate which oxidises the aluminium panel surface. Special ceramic plates independently developed by GlamPalm enables smooth sliding preventing hair to be pulled out. I can vouch for this as this is the MAIN reason I bought the iron. In the 10 years I have done hairdressing, I've never used an iron which literally glided over my hair in which I could barely even feel it on my hair. It's a luxury hair tool that is well worth it's price! With the GHD, it is good but I can definitely feel it tugging on my hair (comfortably) and when using the GHD, I definitely feel like without heat protectant, my hair is definitely being damaged with each use while with the GlamPalm, you can trust that your hair will still be healthier than ever with each use!

Verdict: GLAMPALM!

Please have a look at the Official GlamPalm Website for purchase details and for more information:

Maintaining Ash Hair Colour

For those of you who have ash brown/blonde hair and wish to maintain it, first off you will need a special shampoo with purple/blue pigments in it such as a blonde or silver shampoo. This sort of shampoo prevents your hair from going brassy. I would also advise using an ash or pearl toning mousse or toner once a week or twice a month. It is also highly recommended for you to do a protein and a hydrating treatment once a week, the better condition your hair is in, the longer the colour will last and the nicer the colour will be. Colour fades faster from porous hair.

Repairing your hair

For anyone who's ever bleached, coloured, chemically or heat treated their hair. I recommend you to start with a hair repairing regime at home at least once a week to 2x a month.

I highly recommend you guys try out Kpak by Joico. It is a product that has won many awards and I can back it up as it is a product I use regularly on myself as well.

I used to always scalp bleach my hair and regularly used this product on myself to prevent breakage and to keep it healthy.

It's a 4 step treatment. Comes with a chelating shampoo which is a clarifying shampoo which cleanses your hair thoroughly so you can continue with your next step, which is a cuticle sealer (leave this in for a few minutes up to 5) this neutralises your hair and preps it for the treatment. Next step is the Reconstructor which is the protein treatment which you can leave in for 3-5 minutes, rinse off and following it up with the hydrator which is a moisturising treatment that is to be left in the hair for 3-5 minutes. Sometimes if I have time I will leave the reconstructor and hydrator in for a bit longer.

Afterwards just rinse off, towel dry and apply serum and leave-in conditioner.

For damaged hair, do this treatment once a week religiously.

If your hair is relatively healthy with some split ends here and there and you regularly use heat on it, then you can consider doing this treatment every 2 weeks.

How I create my signature curls

A lot of people have asked me what I use to curl hair. For big curls such as the ones you see on my instagram, I use a 38mm barrel curling tong. Before I start, I like to mix serum, leave-in conditioner, volumizing mousse and distribute it throughout the hair while it is wet  then dry it off with a boar brush to get rid of the frizz then I mist the hair with a heat protectant. After I will also lightly mist the hair with hair spray so the curls hold better. I take small sections and curl it and leave it to set for at least 30 seconds then unwrap it and then continue doing the next section. Once I am finished with one section, I lightly mist over it with hairspray again and go onto the next section. All the hair is curled away from the face. (If you like you can alternate the curls for messier curls). Most of the times I don't brush through the curls if the customers are planning on heading out later only because I know it will drop and because I let them brush through it themselves later when they are ready to go out. But if my clients prefer it brushed out then I will brush it out on the day. After I finish curling I will mist it with a shine spray.

For products please see below for my recommendations.

Curling Tong: The best one out there is Babyliss which I highly recommend. It doesn't pull the hair and it is a ceramic coated barrel which evenly distributes the heat. The hair glides off easily without snagging so that's another bonus too!
